Our Commitment
Enoch Archive is committed to making Ancient Text accessible to everyone. We strive to ensure that our website is usable by people of all abilities, including those who use assistive technologies.
Standards
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. While we work toward full compliance, we acknowledge that some areas may not yet meet all success criteria.
Features
- Semantic HTML structure with proper heading hierarchy and landmark regions
- ARIA labels on interactive elements (navigation, buttons, search, toggles)
- The Explore mega-menu uses ARIA menu roles and exposes its expanded/collapsed state
- Keyboard navigation support (arrow keys for chapters, Ctrl+K for quick jump)
- Visible focus indicators for keyboard users
- Adjustable font sizes (A-/A/A+ controls on reading pages)
- Dark mode and Sepia mode for reduced eye strain and comfortable reading
- High contrast text on backgrounds (targeting WCAG AA minimum 4.5:1)
- Skip-to-content link and semantic landmarks for screen reader navigation
- Alt text on images, with graceful fallback when images are unavailable
- Animations respect the "prefers-reduced-motion" setting; no media auto-plays without a control to pause it
Known Limitations
- Some AI-generated images may lack detailed alt text descriptions
- Interactive maps (Leaflet.js) have limited keyboard accessibility
- Some decorative badges and color combinations may not meet AAA contrast ratios (AA is our target)
- Full conformance verification with every assistive technology is ongoing
