Who was Azazel and what did he teach mankind?

Azazel was a chief Watcher who taught humanity metallurgy, weapons, and cosmetics, and who was later bound in darkness until judgment. As one of the principal leaders among the Watchers who descended to Mount Hermon, he stands out for accelerating humanity's descent into violence and moral disorder through forbidden knowledge (Glossary - Glossary: azazel) (Characters - Characters: Azazel).

He specifically taught men to forge swords, knives, shields, and breastplates, and he revealed the metals of the earth along with the art of working them. Azazel also made known bracelets, ornaments, the use of antimony, the beautifying of the eyelids, all kinds of costly stones, and all colouring tinctures (1 Enoch 8:1-4) (Facts - The Book of Enoch 8). These arts of war and vanity fostered bloodshed, godlessness, fornication, and corruption among people, while he is further blamed for teaching all unrighteousness on earth and revealing eternal secrets preserved in heaven (1 Enoch 8:2) (1 Enoch 9:6-10).
