Who was Semjaza, the leader of the Watchers?

Semjaza was the leader of the two hundred Watchers who first proposed their plan, swore a binding oath on Mount Hermon, and descended to take human wives (1 Enoch 6).

He organized the descent from heaven during the days of Jared, persuading his companions to bind themselves by mutual curses so that none would withdraw from the shared transgression. Once on earth the Watchers under his direction selected wives from the daughters of humanity, and their unions produced the Nephilim, giants whose violence soon corrupted the world (1 Enoch 6).

Beyond these unions, the forbidden knowledge taught under Semjaza included metallurgy, cosmetics, astrology, and weaponry, arts that accelerated human moral decline and filled the earth with bloodshed.
